Salutations (and wow!)

First off, let me introduce myself: My name is Tyler, I'm an amateur chess player (and now Shogi player) from Wisconsin in the US. It's a pleasure to be here.

I've decided to start playing Shogi, and I absolutely love 81Dojo - the Rules and Manners section is more in depth and helpful than anything else I've found online, and Tomohide Kawasaki's preface

(81Dojo, becoming to have more influence to shogi communities over the world, here would like to take the responsibility and publish the actual rules and manners of shogi, the traditional culture of Japan. The intention of 81Dojo is not to just spread shogi, but to spread it as its genuine form.)

truly speaks to how much respect and love this community has for the game of Shogi. I look forward to meeting and playing with you all.

Carl, I was just in contact with a Shogi Club in Illinois - it's about 4 hours from me, but if you don't know about it yet, it meets in the mornings on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at Mitsuwa Marketplace which is a Japanese grocery store located in 100 E Algonquin Rd, Arlington Heights, IL 60005.

I plan to attend at some point, but I don't know if I'll be able to set aside the time until October. If you end up checking them out, please say "hi" for me.

Hi! It's nice to see another American who loves shogi, I really wish it were more popular here! My name is Carl, I live in Illinois, and I'm also an amateur chess and shogi player (I'd say I'm about equally as terrible at both, but I still love to play!).

Thank you for the responses. Andy, I'd love to play some games and analyze them with you. There's a seven hour time difference between us, it will be midnight for you when I finish work, (plus a 15-20 minute drive home). Otherwise, we should be able to find a decent time to play during the weekend.

My coordination in the beginning of the game, as well as any tactics that involve drops, need a lot of work (certainly because of my western chess background).

I live in La Crosse, which is on the border between Wisconsin and southern Minnesota. It's a small world, after all.

Hi I am Andy from France but well my family is from Minnesota (and some renegade branches in Wisconsin too ^^).
Even if you are a Packers fan feel free to ask me any question or if you would like to analyze with me some position/game! :)
