Hello everyone,

I'm a shogi newbie from Vancouver, Canada.

I actually discovered shogi way back in 1997 (from the drama Futarikko) and received a set as a gift back then, but unfortunately didn't start playing until late 2013.

I was saddened to learn that the Vancouver Shogi Club had been on hiatus for several years, so I've brought that back to life. My next challenge is help re-launch the Canadian Shogi Federation, which has also been dormant for several years.

My initial goal was to organize a 2017 Canadian Shogi Championship, to select a Canadian representative for the 2017 International Shogi Forum. However, thanks to 81Dojo, I'm able to help organize such a tournament this year.

I'm still a fairly poor player, and I'm spending much of my shogi time organizing rather than learning, which is delaying my progress. However, I'm happy to see a revival of the game here in Canada.

A small Toronto club is currently planning a public launch, and there is some talk of a Montreal club starting up this coming autumn.

Exciting times ahead for Canadian shogi!
