Hi, how may I purchase a copy of the MSM? I haven't yet gotten a response from Mrs. Hodges. WSC.

Hi, how may I purchase a copy of the MSM? I haven't yet gotten a response from Mrs. Hodges. WSC.
>>4 DoubleU Ah, yes! That picture has no 'scale' - I should have thought of that! The set whose description I quoted in my earlier post has a "pliable vinyl board". I have one of these boards (for Tori Shogi) in front of me right now. It is 32cm x 36cm. I guess a Chu board might be somewhat larger (say ~40cm x ~45cm). The board is 'rollable' rather than foldable, but it is certainly portable... If it were me, I'd still go for the 'manual+board+pieces' deal for £80... I don't think you'll find a 'pocket' set? There's also the set of templates for a 'paper and card' set I mentioned in my earlier post. It's free, but no manual..
>>3 captbirdseye Cool, thanks. But, how big is the board? Is it small enough to fit in my pocket? (Probably not?) Or will it fit on my bookcase? in my closet? in my attic? Exact dimensions if possible, plus something to compare to, would be greatly appreciated, please.
>>2 DoubleU > Thanks, I did get though. But now she's offered the MSM for free if I also buy a chu shogi set. Should I? I'd need to know how big it is and whatnot. I don't have many Japanese friends I know in person. Good that you made contact! You'll find a picture of a Chu Shogi set at the top right of the Wikipedia Chu Shogi page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chu_shogi As you can see, its reasonably (but not impossibly) large at 12x12. The description of the set from AH is: "Middle Shogi set with a pliable vinyl board marked with file numbers and rank letters to aid notation. With Shogi Association yellowish, wood-effect pieces stamped black/red. The board is 12 x 12 squares and comes with a total of 92 pieces. Middle Shogi is, without doubt, one of the very finest chess games in the world. The great Oyama was quite convinced that playing this game would improve one's normal Shogi strength." I don't have this set myself, but I do have a set with the sort of pieces described here - they are plastic, but they are good quality plastic... The price is currently £80, and the price of the MSM download is £35, which means you would be getting the Chu Shogi set for £45. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. A Chu Shogi board and pieces from the Shogi Game Store will cost over Y40,000... Footnote----------- I'm not suggesting this as an alternative, but on my Shogi Archive, I have templates for a paper-and-card Chu Shogi set: https://www.dropbox.com/s/uk0v32avecjty7q/DIY%20Chu%20Shogi%20set.pdf?dl=0 It might be worth your while looking at that to get a 'feel' for the whole thing? > I don't have many Japanese friends... Hey! I don't have *any* friends, It's really, really sad...
>>1 captbirdseye Thanks, I did get through. But now she's offered the MSM for free if I also buy a chu shogi set. Should I? I'd need to know how big it is and whatnot. I don't have many Japanese friends I know in person.
Purely by co-incidence, I know that Mrs. Hodges 'had a few days off' over Xmas. Try again. If still no response, post here and I will try and follow-up for you...
