Impasse?

Why is there no draw option on the dojo?
I just lost an 1100 move game on a 27 point rule technicality that I had never heard of. Very annoying when it turns out I had the points to claim this for hundreds of moves...

Surely allowing players to agree on impasse would be a better option?

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses, appreciate the feedback.
Will certainly remember the 27 point rule next time!

Well, i wouldn't say it's a 'mistake'. It's more like a neglect in looking the 81Dojo-specific rules for impasse situations.

Pro games don't have any such rule: they have a more lenient rule that actually more easily allows for an impasse outcome. Amateurs have a few different rules that all try to force a win. The philosophy behind this has not been explained very clearly. And, apparently, there isn't any agreement since different apps/sites use different rules. (For example, the Shogi Quest uses a so-called 'Try' rule, which is a totally different 'get-to-homebase-first' rule.) It's weird. Maybe the gatekeepers of amateur games hate too many move games?

Personally, i think 81Dojo should just follow pro rules. It would fit Hidetchi's 'true' shogi vision better.

There is no draw option, but if both players like it, they can do it by four times repeating position.

But if BOTH players have reached entering king, it is no draw because the 27 point rule.
One player can win and he shouldn't accept any draw.

While I wouldn't be against a mutual draw option (there may be one - I honestly haven't looked for it), the 27 point rule is listed in 81dojo's rules and manners section (http://81dojo.com/documents/Rules_and_Manners_of_Shogi#Game_End), it's called King Entering (or Nyu-gyoku).

Learning how it works will definitely help you in the future.

It must be very frustrating to lose such a long game in such a way; all we can do is learn from our mistakes.

All the best.
