There's also an excellent 24-page booklet by John Fairbairn, 'Shogi - How to Play', published by The Shogi Association in 1979. A very nice short introduction.

It's probably out-of-print, but Angela Hodges *may* still have copies.

Websites: Wikipedia

Books: This is my own list of English language books (I do not read, write or speak Japanese). These are the ones which are worth looking at IMO:

Those marked with a * are good for new players. Whatever, they are all good.

If you go down the road of looking for some of the older books on the internet, *don't* pay over the odds for
them - there are some plain silly prices being asked on t'internet, but some can still be found at a reasonable
price at the Aobo Shop (http://en.aobo-shop.com/) and one or two other places (http://www.shogifoundation.co.uk/),
Nekomado Shop (http://shop.nekomado.com/), Angela Hodges(?). This comment applies to most of the out-of-print books in the list.

The Art of Shogi is pretty good for openings, and other theory, as are Better Moves for Better Shogi and
Guide to Shogi Openings (very hard to find - took me 5 years to track down a copy!). The 'At a Glance' series are good too.

There are one or two REALLY BAD books in English - be careful...

Oh, aye, I forgot - BMFBS and GTSO are available as paid-for downloads (PDF) from Angela Hodges - also the complete run of 'Shogi' magazine (PDF). There is a pricelist here: https://tinyurl.com/ShogiPriceList - I don't guarantee the prices are up to date, but you will be able to see what's available...

If you have a smartphone with android, you can subscribed to Shogi live. It´s an app with official and up-to-date games.

This is 81Dojo's web system for account and data management. The entrance to the shogi app can be found in the main site at https://81dojo.com.
