I have placed a DIY Dai Shogi set, consisting of paper templates for a board and pieces in my Shogi archive. If you are interested, go to:

This set is designed for printing off to A3 sheets, although it is possible to print to A4 (the set is a little small, though).

This is a prototype, and in an ideal world requires further work. I do need to put it on the back-burner for a time, while
I catch up on other projects, but I will return and apply a final polish later in the year. Please post feedback here, or send

In particular, I am not entirely easy about:

1) the size of the pieces in relation to the size of the squares on the board.
2) the size (and aspect ratio) of the pieces relative to each other
3) the quality of some of the images

I have used George Hodges publications 'Dai Shogi And How To Play It' and 'The Great Shogi Games and How To Play Them' for the images, and have tried to retain the relative sizes of the pieces as shown in those publications. Some of the scans are quite old, and are low resolution - these will be re-scanned at higher resolution when I get the time.

I might do Dobutsu Shogi next...
