KidoSeen (1038) 2019-12-13 17:36

OK, I think I now know what is happening.

The Shogidokoro web page was hosted by GeoCities. The Geocities service was terminated earlier this year, so it's gone! The image of the site which I saw briefly yesterday must have been a cached image?

I think there are moves to put the GeoCities content on to the WayBack machine, but this hasn't happened yet.

However, I have just been informed that Shogidokoro 4.4.0 is available from http://shogidokoro.starfree.jp/download.html - click on the ダウンロード link about three lines down, and you should see a zipped folder 'Shogidokoro' appear on your machine. I am in the process of trying this out to see what differences there are between 3.9 and 4.4...

You will need to 'register' an engine before you can use the program.

To do this for the Lesserkai engine (included with the program), you should:

Game>Engine Manager>Add

to get a directory listing for the 'engine' directory. Select and open 'Lesserkai' from that directory. After a couple of seconds, the Lesserkai engine should appear in the list of registered engines. You are now set to go.

You can follow the same procedure to register additional engines which you can download. I usually put these extra engines in the Engine directory.

---ALTERNATIVE-------------------------------------------

I have placed a version of 3.9 on my Shogi Archive. Enter:

https://RogersShogiArchive

into your browser, and then select and download Shogidokoro-3.9.zip from the list of resources (mostly PDF files) which you will see displayed. This version includes the Spear2008 and Spear2009 engines.

This is my Shogi archive - all material there can be downloaded for free.

This is a 'quick and dirty' fix I may tidy it up a little later on. If you try this, rather than going straight for the 4.4 option, please let me know how you get on.

> Thank you for your answer. I tried several times to download shogidokoro...

Strange. I accessed the site this morning, and it was OK (though I didn't download anything). Now, it is not there - I am seeing sone sort of Google Translate page.

[Edit: Some minutes later. Accessing the page via another route, I am seeing a 'service terminated' message from Yahoo Japan. Very peculiar. I have initiated a query about this on another forum where I may be able to get an answer...]

Keep trying!

Meantime, I will try and create a compressed version of my copy (3.9.0) and post it on my DropBox archive. This will take several days as I am busy with other stuff at the moment.

Watch this space!

To captbirdseye:

Thank you for your answer. I tried several times to download shogidokoro but the yahoo site where the download link comes from is down. Therefore I have no access to shogidokoro. Does anyone have a download link which works?

I too have struggled a little with ShogiGUI. In case you haven't seen them, there are English language installation instructions here:

http://shogibond.nl/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/GUI-Introduction.pdf

They tell you how to set the program up with either English or German interface.

You may also care to consider an alternative - Shogidokoro - available here:

https://www.techsupportalert.com/content/shogidokoro.htm-0

It's similar in appearance and functionality to ShogiGUI, and the interface is in English.

View>Preferences will allow you to choose the kifu format you desire, amongst other things. I think that addresses your original query?

Personally I prefer Shogidokoro, but I would say that, because I've been using it for a million years - since it was first released (more or less).
